Nope…I suppose I’m blessed. I always do the clean up song from Blues Clues: “Where does it belong, where does it belong, where does it belong? It’s the clean up, clean up song.”

Granted….the big purple dinosaur is banned in my house. Maybe that’s it. (No likey the dino…)

Kim: I’ll be surprised if you really don’t know it. The lyrics are: “Clean up, clean up, everybody, everywhere. Clean up, clean up, everybody do your share.” *repeat ad nauseum*

It’s been embraced by pre-school and Kindergarten teachers everywhere, but it was most widely disseminated by the big purple dinosaur.

We sing it all the time. :P

I’m sure you deserve half over again as much in salary, too - go after it! The great thing about being good at your job and knowing it is that you get to the point where you’re not afraid to ask for what you are worth.

Or at least a decent increase to move in the right direction ;)

Sorry to hear that your uncle passed. :( He was with his family surrounded by peace and love when he left, which is how it ought to be.

My Masters is in Education. I’m definitely not ready to move away from home just yet — things we can chat about sometime. With everything I’ve got on my plate right now, the cost of moving and the living expenses of being out on my own would not be feasible.

Best bet for me would be to find the $$$ to work on my PhD, first. (Besides, most 4 year unis won’t hire anything other than a D to teach, other than GTAs for the frosh classes.)

Quicker goal: Write an educational book so awesome that people all over the country want to pay me to come out and give workshops/seminars/etc. Push towards that goal? The month-long workshop I just finished was training for creating workshops; I am now a teaching consultant!

Kim: I had to think hard about that one as I was completing this. I kept thinking, “Wait. Surely I’ve read Animal Farm!” But if I can’t remember anything about it, I’m assuming I haven’t. Maybe I’ll take it with me out to my parents’ today. It’s gonna be a long day, and I may well want to tuck myself into a corner with a book at some point.

As for teaching college: Have you been in a college classroom lately? In all but the 300- and 400-level English classes, you’d still be looking at a sea of blank faces. And you pretty much have to have tenure, I think, before you can teach at those upper levels.

That said, you absolutely should teach at a college level! You’d be great at it, and you’d get more downtime for personal pursuits than in midle school - probably for a comparable salary.

We have teaching openings at Ye Olde University often. Wanna move? :) (Seriously: Couldn’t hurt to apply! What’s your Masters in? It would be great to have you in town!)

You must read Animal Farm. In fact, if you would like to read it and discuss and have some one to read it with, read it in January, which is when I will force my 8th graders to read it (meaning I will read it for the 9th, 10th, and 11th times.) It would be so nice to be able to get into an in-depth discussion of all the symbolism without 20-30 faces staring at me wondering “how can it mean all that??? It’s just a story about some animals on a farm.” (I need to teach college.)
