Water has gone down. Just opened my car door and was greeted by a rush of flood water. It was up over the seats, at least, because they were wet. I have no doubt that my car will be totalled. I am so *cursing* sad. I’m going to bed.

Speaking from experience, some cars can survive the trauma of a flood. (Actually, it’s amazing what can survive… Expreience: we lost our house and most of our possessions in a flood, March 1990.) Give plenty of time for everything to dry out.
Question: Water that high and none in the house?
Thanks for the encouragement, Kim. I’m not totally giving up hope, but Joey and I did some research online last night and it was not encouraging. We’ll see. I really don’t want to lose my bug!
As for the house: We have a pier-and-beam foundation, so the first floor of the house is raised a few feet off the ground. Thank god for small mercies!
On a related note: AB was adorably excited by “all that water.” Unfortunately, she was also up til midnight, flitting around the house. Mommy needs a nap this morning. :P
oh god. do not total the bug. :’( i hope that it dries and is okay. :(
I know! I’m totally gonna cry if they do. Since the total will probably just pay it off (if that), I’ll probably be stuck driving something depressing like a Saturn or a Ford. Boo. :(
Are you guys having it towed to a shop to get it checked out? You don’t want to fry the wiring harness trying to crank it. Sad to hear that so much water got in it but at least the house was nice and dry. Lydi and I will keep our fingers crossed for you that its not totalled. Gotta keep another good VDub alive!
Sam: Thanks for the crossed fingers! We’re waiting for a field claims adjustor from USAA to come check the cars out in the next few days. According to them, there are no shops in Shreveport that specialize in flood damage. Hmm. Anyway, there are a ton of people in town in the same boat as us, so I’m not sure how long we’ll have to wait.
I actually broke a car once trying to restart it after I’d driven it into water, so I knew better than to try to crank it. Lessons learned the hard way tend to stick. :P
Oh f*** me that picture was heartbreaking. Hopefully the adjuster doesn’t jack you around too bad.
Fuller: Thanks… I hope the same! I’m so sad to have to give up my bug - and I know you understand…
*sigh*
